Sustainable travel
Before you book you travel, please consider if you can choose a more sustainable transport e.g. train instead of plane, bus/train/underground instead of taxi etc.
Airports
Stockholm has four airports: Arlanda (ARN), Bromma (BMA), Skavsta (NYO) and Västerås (VST).
The main airport is Arlanda with most international flights and best shuttle services; Bromma is closest to the city but has only a few international destinations (one is Brussels). Västerås and Skavsta are the two other international airports, both located about 100 km from Stockholm and mainly cater low-budget airlines. Travel time from Västerås and Skavsta is about 1,5 to 2 hours.
Travel from Västerås, Skavsta and Bromma to Stockholm
Flygbussarna Airport Coaches operates also the three minor airports and runs to Stockholm City terminal/Central station.
Travel time for airport coaches:
Skavsta or Västerås to Stockholm C: 80 min
Bromma to Stockholm C: 20 min
Regional trains are also available, with a travel time of around 2 hours. Check options at the websites.
Arlanda Express – high-speed train to and from Stockholm
The Arlanda Express runs non stop between Stockholm and Arlanda in 20 minutes. If you are travelling from Arlanda to Stockholm, you can buy your ticket at the airport’s information desks or in the Arlanda Express self-service machines located next to the escalators/lifts leading down. You can also purchase your tickets online in advance. For information and tickets, please visit www.arlandaexpress.com.
An alternative to Arlanda Express is to take the commuter train at Arlanda Central Station. The fee can be paid at the entrance to the station at the airport. The train leaves every 30 minutes and the travel takes 36 min.
Metro/ underground
Website for local travel is sl.se. Local name for metro / underground is “Tunnelbana”, and the letter T marks the stations.
Tickets
Please note that all local travel is cash free, and that you can’t purchase tickets on-board any buses or trains. We strongly recommend you download the app called SL Reseplanerare in advance of your trip to Stockholm. Using the app, you check time tables and buy tickets for the metro and buses within Stockholm.
